The Field Guide for Airport Pavement Maintenance Recommendation Tool is a paper version of an online tool for general aviation managers to assess airport pavement rehabilitation needs.

As part of this project, a TTI editor reworked an existing report into a guidebook format. The editor used information chunking, a heading hierarchy, and plain language to make the guidebook easy to read and navigate. The designer created infographics, callouts, and effective design to complement the writing.

Airport Pavement Maintenance Recommendation Tool

Click the screenshot above to go to the homepage of the Airport Pavement Maintenance Recommendation Tool website.

This website provides guidance to general aviation airport managers in determining the most cost-efficient and appropriate preventative maintenance solution to common pavement issues.

One of the features of the website is a cost estimator tool. For example, if a user sees a pavement distress, they may identify it using pictures provided on the website. Then the user goes through a series of steps to determine the severity of the distress and is provided with a cost estimate that can be taken to local officials.

FHWA Urban Congestion Trends Report

August 14, 2015

Cover screenshot_2014 UCT 8pagerThe two main objectives of this multi-year program are to: 1) monitor freeway performance and analyze trends in traffic congestion and travel reliability using archived traffic operations data; and, 2) provide “proof of concept” and technical assistance to foster local/regional performance monitoring programs and the supporting data collection and archives. The FHWA-funded project has been ongoing since 2000, and has evolved in the past ten years. The current reporting structure is a quarterly national report that focuses on the most readily-available data in 23 cities (http://www.ops.fhwa.dot.gov/perf_measurement/ucr/).  The results of this program are used by FHWA in their agency performance reporting processes, as well as in gaining a better understanding of the impacts and source of traffic congestion. Numerous state and local agencies have used the results and reports from this program to develop their own customized congestion reporting process within their agencies.

The course materials provide a user-friendly overview (using innovative online delivery) on the basics of traffic monitoring, and also includes some details for interested course participants. The online course has been funded by and is offered through the Western Federal Lands’ Coordinated Technology Implementation Program (CTIP).

Report Impaired Drivers Public Service Announcement

November 8, 2011

A Texas Department of Transportation sponsored research project caused this PSA to be created. The research project will determine if drivers can be encouraged to modify their behavior by reporting impaired drivers. Deer Park, Texas, was chosen for this project. The PSA aired on local cable insert in Deer Park only. The PSA was written and produced by TTI Communications. The custom version of The Hokey Pokey was performed and recorded by TTI Communications personnel. TTI Communications arranged the licensing of the music for the PSA.

It Isn’t Rocket Science

November 8, 2011

It Isn’t Rocket Science is a first-of-its-kind product created for viewing in Driver Education classes. Prior to It Isn’t Rocket Science, sharing the road with motorcycles was not discussed in Texas Driver Education curriculum. Using humor, prospective drivers are told to watch for motorcycles hiding in blind spots and to allow motorcycles their space on the road. Written and produced by TTI Communications, It Isn’t Rocket Science was produced as part of the Look, Learn, Live motorcycle safety campaign.

Sign Retroreflectivity Guidebook and CD-ROM

October 24, 2011

New federal standards require all agencies responsible for traffic sign maintenance in the U.S. to evaluate their road signs for retroreflectivity. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) engaged the Texas A&M Transportation Institute to create a guidebook and interactive CD-ROM to help agencies meet the new standard.
