As part of this SWUTC project, a TTI editor reworked an existing report into a guidebook format. The editor used information chunking, a heading hierarchy, and plain language to make the guidebook easy to read and navigate. The designer created infographics, callouts, and effective design to complement the writing.

October 6, 2016

screen-shot-2016-10-05-at-3-35-02-pm

Click the screenshot above to go to the homepage of the Airport Pavement Maintenance Recommendation Tool website.

This website provides guidance to general aviation airport managers in determining the most cost-efficient and appropriate preventative maintenance solution to common pavement issues.

One of the features of the website is a cost estimator tool. For example, if a user sees a pavement distress, they may identify it using pictures provided on the website. Then the user goes through a series of steps to determine the severity of the distress and is provided with a cost estimate that can be taken to local officials.

Since it was launched in 1998, the Clearinghouse website has received over 1.5 million visitors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and over 30 countries around the world.  The Clearinghouse is considered to be the world’s largest online library on roadway work zone safety including: crash data, best practices, key safety engineer contact information, laws and regulations, standards, manuals, guidelines, news and research publications, public awareness campaigns, safety products, training and educational materials, and foreign language materials.  The Clearinghouse has received numerous awards, the most recent being the 2008 International Road Federation’s Global Road Achievement Awards.
