Technology Transfer and Research/Implementation Support

August 14, 2015

TTI Communications works with TTI and other university researchers across the state for the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) Research and Technology Implementation (RTI) Office to produce user-friendly materials that promote implementation and technology transfer of TxDOT’s FHWA-sponsored SPR, Part 2 research program findings. Upon request and when directed,  creative teams develop a wide range of educational products, including guidebooks, online training modules, workshop materials, project web pages, and video summary reports (VSRs) hosted and maintained on TxDOT’s YouTube channel. Editorial and writing staff also assist in the development, quality control (editing), publication, and electronic distribution of approximately 150 research project deliverables each year, as well as materials for 5 -10 different workshops annually. Specifically relevant to this project is the research supervisor’s 10 years of experience in successfully overseeing and managing these contract  services, as well as the as well as the fact that most of the staff working under her supervision have 15-20 years of experience performing the specialized technical services needed to meet the terms of the contract.

FHWA Urban Congestion Trends Report

August 14, 2015

Cover screenshot_2014 UCT 8pagerThe two main objectives of this multi-year program are to: 1) monitor freeway performance and analyze trends in traffic congestion and travel reliability using archived traffic operations data; and, 2) provide “proof of concept” and technical assistance to foster local/regional performance monitoring programs and the supporting data collection and archives. The FHWA-funded project has been ongoing since 2000, and has evolved in the past ten years. The current reporting structure is a quarterly national report that focuses on the most readily-available data in 23 cities (http://www.ops.fhwa.dot.gov/perf_measurement/ucr/).  The results of this program are used by FHWA in their agency performance reporting processes, as well as in gaining a better understanding of the impacts and source of traffic congestion. Numerous state and local agencies have used the results and reports from this program to develop their own customized congestion reporting process within their agencies.
